The online poker market also in decline – Spain

In the European Union, France is not the only country to suffer from downturn of online poker market. A few weeks ago, the Spanish players went on virtual strike to draw attention of the authorities in charge to clarify the situation. Since the crisis hit the online poker market in many European countries, French and Spanish players have engaged in the same struggle. This is about playing among European players to raise the attendance rate in internet poker rooms. Like their peers on the other side of the Pyrenees, since the introduction of a new regulation, three years ago, Spanish players are forced to play together, which has not arranged a market already battered by the crisis.

Online poker rooms have had their attendance lowered. The latest report from the Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego, the equivalent of ARJEL in Spain, revealed a decrease of 3.17% of gross gaming revenue in the last quarter of 2014. The results of the year 2015 are not yet published, but according to the players and the community of Iberian poker enthusiasts, the situation is far from improving, hence the call for mobilization launched in May in order to challenge the government and the regulatory authority of Spanish online games.
